Intermediate
Gibraltar Tour

Overview

The Intermediate Tour of Gibraltar will take approximately 4h30 where you will be exposed to Gibraltar’s History and Military Heritage, with some spikes of adrenaline rush as you experience some of Gibraltar’s most famous attractions and highest peaks of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Our local and bilingual tour guides will provide you with a full guided tour in English and/or Spanish, telling you all about the History of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Attractions you will be visiting. If you do not understand any of these languages, please contact us at Gibraltar Tours, and we will see if we can make any special arrangements for you.

In this Intermediate Tour you will be taken to The 100 Ton Gun, one of the most impressive and unique Gibraltar tourist attractions located in Gibraltar. It is a historical artillery piece that dates back to the 19th century. Named as 100  Ton Gun due its massive size and weight, measuring over 33 feet long (11m)  and weighing approximately 103 tons.

Stopping by Europa Point, you will be able to visit one of the main Gibraltar attractions at Europa Point, the Trinity Lighthouse. Built in 1841, the lighthouse has been guiding ships through the Strait of Gibraltar for over 150 years. Visitors can tour around the lighthouse where they can enjoy breathtaking views of the Straits of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Intermediate Tour will also include a pit stop by the Pillars of Hercules, a historical and geographical term used to refer to the Strait of Gibraltar. The Pillars of Hercules have been an important landmark throughout history. The myth of Hercules and the pillars have been a source of inspiration for many writers and artists throughout history, symbolising the limits of human exploration and the boundaries of the known world.

This Gibraltar Tour will follow on to St. Michael’s Cave, a natural cave located in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve of Gibraltar, sitting at 300 metres above sea level. The cave is one of the most popular tours of Gibraltar, attracting visitors from around the world with its stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations and fascinating history.

After this mesmerising experience, will follow a visit to O’Hara’s Battery, a historical and cultural landmark located at the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar. A military fortification designed to protect the western entrance to the Rock of Gibraltar with a 9.2-inch cannon mounted on it. Only a few minutes walk away you will be able to walk to The Gibraltar Skywalk, a glass-bottomed platform with a sheer drop of over 400 metres to the sea below.

At this location of the Rock of Gibraltar you will also have a privileged encounter with the Gibraltar Barbary macaque, also known as the Gibraltar Barbary ape, a species of macaque native to North Africa and the only wild monkey population in Europe. Shortly after, a few minutes away, you may also have the opportunity to see the Ape’s Den as you prepare your adrenaline levels for The Windsor Suspension Bridge Experience. The Windsor Suspension Bridge can be accessed via an off road path, located over a 50 metre deep gorge, connecting two batteries along the Royal Anglian Way. A thrilling experience as you walk across the bridge as it sways and wobbles all along.

Once the adrenaline levels calm down, you will be taken to a total immersive experience of Gibraltar’s rich history. The Intermediate Tour of Gibraltar will also take you on a guided tour to The Great Siege Tunnels of Gibraltar as well as the WW2 Tunnels; both a system of tunnels that were carved out of the limestone rock in the late 18th century during the Great Siege of Gibraltar and the WW 2 era. The tunnels were dug out by the British military relying only on their own arm strength, sledgehammers and crowbars, with the help of gunpowder explosions.

To finish off, the Intermediate Gibraltar Tour will allow a historical stop by the Moorish Castle, once a mediaeval fortress dated back to the 8th century, where you will enjoy the castle’s many features, including its towers, gates, courtyards and stunning views over the city and the of the bay of Gibraltar.
